Re-Work in Progress

Nanjing Academy of Art Museum (2018)

Dai Jian questions the relationship between the creative process and the show, and between the artist and the audience.
The body coated with plaster is forced to remain static, waiting for the liquid plaster to solidify. He saw each stage of plaster transformation and its relationship to time. This body sets in motion and thus creates a new transformation: the setting in tension until the destruction of already solidified plaster. The remains of plaster left in their new state, scattered with random movements are reorganized: the plaster, the clothes that wrapped the body and the tools that shaped it. Describing the meticulousness and obsessive work of the artist in the rearrangement of materials, the worked work proposes a creative and composed meditation.
